Poultry Meeting 9/18/24

All dates on the website under the events section.

 

All poultry exhibitors who wish to compete at the Pima County Fair will be required to attend two events prior to the Fair: those events can be either of the two clinics, the Fur and Feather Show, Tucson Fancy Fowl, or the Arizona 4-H Stock Show and Round-Up. (or any combination of two events listed)

 

Oct 6 at 2 pm – Poultry Clinic: Video presentation from Texas A&M then showmanship practice (bring your bird if you’d like). Questions after the video can be sent to Texas A&M. Second clinic one will be January 12 Topic TBD. Location: CAC University of Arizona Campus Ag Center Modular Building

 

Oct 13:  YQCA in person poultry only. Must register and pay online. Registration should open October 5. The class is $3. You can register up to one hour prior to the training.  Pre-test before the class is required and a post- test after. When all of those are complete you will get your certificate. Location: CAC (University of Arizona Campus Ag Center Modular Building)

 

Oct 25-26: Apache County Show. They will have fun events like a trunk or treat. Lots of kid’s event. Sales area. Highly recommend everyone go. Show book is out on Facebook and on our website under events.

 

  

T-SHIRT Fundraiser deadline to get your shirts by Fur and Feather is OCT 15. A portion of all sales will be donated to the Pima County Poultry Project. Go to the website to order your shirts!

 

Turkey order deadline oct 31. Sign up on the website under the commercial page.

 

NEW DATES

 

Oct 1:  next sales committee meeting moved from November to October 1 at the Extension office, 7 pm.

 

October 23: Next Zoom meeting for poultry at 7 pm

 

Arizona 4-H Stock Show and Round Up moved to February 15-16!!

 

Herdsmanship: Awesome traveling trophy for winners at the fair! Traveling trophy with club’s name engraved on the front. Winning club will get the following years shavings for their club donated by Tractor Supply! New this year: No specific time to do Herdsmanship. Encourage cleaning twice a day. Make sure food and water is always full. No specific time for judging. Judging will take place anytime during the day. Make sure your pens are Honor system as opposed to signing in.

 

Pens will be set up as a show by breed/variety etc. not by club. Commercial birds will be judged in the arena.

 

Overall showmanship award at the end of the fair. Based on cumulative scores from 4 shows:  Fur and feather, Tucson Fancy Fowl, Stock Show and Round Up and the Fair. Placings will get points awarded. Highest points will win a prize for grand and reserve.  Grand winners in all 3 age groups (junior, intermediate and senior) is a year supply of feed from Tractor Supply!

 

A lot of awards/prizes for the fair this year!  A lot of donations have come in. We will let everyone know what we have when they’re all in. We will also have goodie bags for all the kids like a grab bags.

 

Field day: Feb 8 - covered arena at CAC. Still working on the details Will have vets from the state do a lecture on bio security. Stations in the arena to follow. They’ll be broken up by age will go to stations by groups to teach to age level. Stations will be (more to come): Showmanship, how to choose a show bird, turkey showmanship, buyer letter writing. Hopefully will have food trucks. After education we will have games, raffles, other fun events. Full day of poultry fun! Recommendations for games or stations, donations for raffles, please let us know. Bring your own (bug free!) birds. Possibly a sales area. Will try and film lecture and put any pertinent info on the website.
