All of the available commercial projects are listed below. Commercial project means that exhibitors will raise birds to be used for food, either eggs or meat. These projects will require a health form that lists any medications given to your birds prior to entering the fair. More information will come out on the forms closer to the fair. If we have it sooner, we will get it to you.

Commercial Laying Hen Project
Exhibitors will purchase and raise 5, day old Pearl White Leghorn Large Fowl chicks (no bantams) to at least 21 weeks old. Chicks must be purchased through the Pima County 4-H Poultry Project in order to participate.
You can order your chicks by filling out the form below.
*Deadline to order for 4-H was July 27, 2024. ORDERS CLOSED
*FFA deadline to order was August 9, 2024. ORDERS CLOSED
Each set of birds will be $25.
Exhibitors will select their best THREE (3) birds to show at the fair and must be laying eggs by the time of arrival at the fairgrounds. Only one pen of laying hens are allowed.
Judges will base their decision on uniformity, overall vigor/health, vent shape/size, body width, leg pigment, egg quality (shape/size) and overall production quality.
*Female birds will be ordered however it is not guaranteed. Only female birds laying eggs will be allowed.

Commercial Turkey Project
Exhibitors will purchase and raise 3, day old Broad Breasted White female poults to at least 20 weeks old. Poults must be purchased through the Pima County 4-H Poultry Project in order to participate. You can order your poults by filling out the form below.
Deadline to oder is October 31, 2024.
Exhibitors will select their best turkey (ONE) to show at the fair. Only one turkey is allowed.
Judges will base their decision on the quality of meat for the table. Turkey’s will be an appropriate weight for their breed/gender and can be disqualified at the judges discretion if over or under weight. Ideal weight for a female will be 20-30 pounds.
*Female birds will be ordered however it is not guaranteed. If you get a tom you will not be disqualified.

Utility Quail Project
Exhibitors will purchase and raise either Jumbo Brown Coturnix chicks to appropriate age a weight. You do not have to order through the Pima County Poultry project. If you need help finding these breeds, please reach out to us for contacts.
Exhibitors will select their best three birds to show at the fair.
Judges will base their decision on the quality of meat for the table or egg laying qualities. Quail will be an appropriate weight for their breed/sex and can be disqualified at the judges discretion if over or under weight. Ideal weights TBD

Commercial Duck Project
Exhibitors will purchase and raise 4, day old commercial duck chicks to at least 8 weeks old. Chicks must be purchased through the Pima County 4-H project in order to participate. You can order your chicks by filling out the form below.

Exhibitors will select their best two (2) birds to show at the fair. Only one pen of 2 ducks is allowed.
Judges will base their decision on the quality of meat for the table or egg laying qualities. Ducks will be an appropriate weight for their breed/sex and can be disqualified at the judges discretion if over or under weight. Ideal weights TBD

Heritage Meat Pen Project
Exhibitors will raise a trio of Heritage Meat pen birds (Large Fowl Only). Exhibitors may purchase or hatch their own birds for this project and are not required to purchase through the Pima County 4-H Poultry Project. The best time to purchase varies on the breed and growth time. See our resources below.
Birds must be between 9 months old and one year of age. They should hatch between April 29, 2024 - July 20, 2024 The Trio should be uniform in size and weight. There is not a weight limit for this project since there are various breeds. However, you must check the breed standards for your birds to make sure you raise them to their appropriate standard weights.
Exhibitors may bring two (2) pens of Heritage Birds to show at the fair. (two trios to equal 6 total birds)
Judges will base their decision on uniformity and overall production quality.

Cornish Cross Project (fryers and Broilers)
Exhibitors will purchase and raise Cornish Rock Cross day old chicks to at least 6-8 weeks old. You do not have to order through Pima County 4-H Poultry project. Makes sure to do your research and find a breeder or hatchery that will ship your birds at the appropriate time!
Exhibitors will select their best pen consisting of three (3) birds to show at the fair. Exhibiors can bring one (1) trio of fryers and one (1) trio of broilers. Fryers must weigh at least 3 1/2 pounds and not over 5 pounds each. Broilers must weigh at least 5 pounds and not over 9 pounds each.
Judges will base their decision on the quality of meat for the table.

COMMERCIAL LAYING HENS
DEADLINE WAS JULY 27, 2024 TO ORDER CHICKS FOR 4-H and AUGUST 9, 2024 FOR FFA. ORDERS ARE CLOSED!
Chicks will arrive and be ready for pick up the week of August 26, 2024 (will update as shipping info comes in)
This is a commercial bird project. This means that the exhibitor is to raise these birds from chicks to layers. Each exhibitor will order and select 5 birds at pick up. Exhibitors will then raise them to layers and select the 3 best birds to show at the the Pima County Fair. Make sure that you do your research as to what your chicks will need as soon as you pick them up.
*To participate in this project, leghorns must be purchased at the county level (this form) in order to make the competition as fair as possible.
*Payments will need to be exact change at pick up. Chicks will cost $ 25 per set

Order your Broad Breasted White Turkeys by October 31, 2024
Poults will hatch December 1, 2024 (will update if this changes) and will arrive and by ready for pick up on: December 4, 2024
This is a terminal commercial turkey project. This means that the exhibitor will raise these turkeys from day old poults to processing quality and weight. Each exhibitor will select 3 poults at pick up date TBD. You will select your best bird (only one) to show at the the Pima County Fair. Make sure that you do your research as to what your poults will need as soon as you pick them up.
*To participate in this project, poults must be purchased at the county level (this form) in order to make the competition as fair as possible.
*Payments will need to be exact change at pick up. Poults will be $20 a set.

This project can be meat or egg laying commercial duck project. This means that the exhibitor will raise 4 female ducks from day old chicks to layers or processing quality and weight. Each exhibitor will select 4 ducks at pick up on TBD. You will select your best two (2) ducks to show at the the Pima County Fair. Make sure that you do your research as to what your ducks will need as soon as you pick them up.
